About Michael

Keep it pure. Keep it authentic

Michael Angelo Renna, Sara’s third of five sons, grew up in a home filled with the mouth-watering scents of fresh Italian sauces and herbs. As founder and CEO of Michael Angelo’s, he oversees the company’s operations. But his most important role is maintaining his mother’s high standards of quality. He’s adamant that no fillers or preservatives be used in any Michael Angelo’s product.

“ I’ve always said if you find it in Mom’s kitchen, we’ll use it in our product,” he said. “You keep it pure and authentic, just like home.

“ When you look on other food packages and you see thatlaundry list of ‘stuff’ on them, you will see that it’s because they’re using inferior ingredients, and they’re trying to find a way to get around it. Look at the ingredients on our labels; they’re wholesome meats, cheeses, vegetables and herbs.”

If the cost of an ingredient is getting too high, Michael finds ways to cut costs in packaging, shipping or somewhere else. “But we’ll never sacrifice quality. Quality comes first,” said Michael.

“I don’t like Mom to know what things cost, because she gets worried and it affects her choices.

“ One time, she and I were taste-testing tomatoes, and the salesman kept telling her the prices,

and she was tending toward the cheaper ones. So I told him to send the samples back to our place.

“ When all the cans of tomatoes arrived, I removed the labels, laid them out and asked Mom to come taste them. I could see she was worrying over them. She could see the difference in color and texture, and she was already going for the cheaper ones.

“ So I said, ‘That’s it, I’m blindfolding you!’ She puts the blindfold on. I’m serving her the tomatoes and she’s laughing – she’s spitting tomatoes all over me. But, she picked the best-tasting tomato, after we took away pricing, color and everything else. That ’s what we wanted.” – Michael
