“I don’t like Mom to know what things
cost, because she gets worried and it affects her choices.
“ One time, she and I were taste-testing tomatoes, and the salesman kept
telling her the prices, and she was tending toward the cheaper ones. So I told
him to send the samples back to our place.
“
When all the cans of tomatoes arrived, I removed the labels,
laid them out and asked Mom to come taste them. I could see
she was worrying over them. She could see the difference
in color and texture, and she was already going for the cheaper
ones. “
So I said, ‘That’s it, I’m blindfolding you!’ She
puts the blindfold on. I’m serving her the tomatoes and
she’s laughing – she’s spitting tomatoes
all over me. But, she picked the best-tasting tomato, after
we took away pricing, color and everything else. That ’s
what we wanted.” – Michael |
