Our Annual Italy Trip

Our family travels to Italy all of the time – you could say it’s sort of a tradition with us. Last year we decided to create a new tradition and hold an annual ‘Trip to Italy’ sweepstakes for our fans. So now, each Fall, one lucky winner and their guest are invited to join my Mom and me for an amazing culinary adventure through Italy. Last year, Janice and Joe De Angelo (complete coincidence) signed up and won out of over 40,000 entries.

Turns out, Janice and Joe had been planning to go to Italy for their honeymoon , but never got the chance. When the recession hit in the fall of 2009, they tied the knot, but their honeymoon trip had to be cancelled. You can imagine how thrilled we were to be able to show them the country we love and wish them a lifetime of love in the city of love – Venice! We were privileged to invite such an amazing couple into our family during our time together, and introduce them to the people and places where we get some of our premium imported ingredients. After several days together in Bologna, Modena and Venice, we sent Janice and Joe on to Rome and the Amalfy coast for several more days of wining and dining.

We also took a blogger along for the ride – Amanda of www.KevinandAmanda.com – and she took some incredible pictures of the trip. She documented the olive oil tasting in Verona, the Parmigiano Reggiano tour at Casearia di Sant’Anna and the amazing lunch with the family behind Ca’ Madresca Winery. Check out all of her amazing photos on her Facebook page. Here’s a little taste.

Sounds like a great time, doesn’t it? This year, it could be you. We’ll be renting a villa in Tuscany and visiting wineries and hilltop towns dating back more than six centuries. I’m on a mission to find the best that Italy has to offer, so if you’re interested in coming along, you really should enter the sweepstakes. And one other thing…we’ll be visiting a real castle! Check out Castello Banfi, where some of the world’s best wines are made, nurtured and kept in a spectacular cellar that defies description. It’s going to be a wonderful experience. We wish you the very best of luck and hope to be your personal tour guides and hosts for another culinary adventure of a lifetime!

Buona fortuna!
